Joaquin's Story/Benefit
Joaquin Emilio Salazar was diagnosed with Tricuspid Atresia before birth. When he was born and transported by ambulance to Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus near the families home, the cariologists found two more defects. Joaquin was diagnosed with a rare and complex heart defect-Tricuspid Atresia, Transposition of the Great Arteries type B with an Interrupted Aortic Arch. It's a mothful but here are the basics.
Tricuspid Atresia means no or small right ventricle...which means that blood can't flow properly if at all.
Interrupted Aortic Arch means the aorta is not completely developed.
Joaquin had open heart surgery at just seven days old. And because of his condition and a certain medicine that his body needed, he was not allowed to eat at all until a few days after his surgery.
Joaquin will require two more open heart surgeries. With the grace of God and His work through the surgeon's hands, Joaquin will lead a fairly normal life. He will not be able to play contact sports and will need to be on baby Aspirin and Lasik for the rest of his life.
About 35,000 infants are born with some kind of a heart defect each year in the US.
The Salazar & Sandoval Family will be having a brisket bbq plate lunch benefit on Dec 5th from 11-2 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Hall in Taylor TX. Plates sell for $8.00 and will come with a generous portion of Beef brisket, Mexican rice, beans, trimmings, and dessert.
If you would like to purchase tickets ahead of time you can call Sebastion Salazar at 512-560-5233 and walk-ins are welcome.
If you can not make the benefit and would like to make a donation to Joaquin's medical fund you can make checks payable to Paul and Christi Salazar memo: Joaquin's medical fund and mail to Sebastian Salazar 318 Mitchell Dr. Hutto TX 78634
Thank you and God Bless

Trig Palin
I couldn't believe what I was reading...a website has been established to organize a national day of prayer for Trig..in order to "cure" his Down Syndrome. Yes, you read that right, they want to "cure" his Down syndrome to prove that God exists. I'm not even quite sure where to begin with this one. Crazy Mad...that's where. This brings me back to a question I was once asked if you could take away Rustin's Down syndrome would you? Although that is a small part of who he is it also makes up that face I Love so much and his personality that makes me laugh every day he has taught us so much and we have become a part of a great organization DSACT and have meet so many awesome people. So with that in mind I would have to say NO. Would I take away the challenges he faces and the health issues and the people who don't have any compassion. I would have to say YES on those things. So its a tough question. By praying away his extra chromosome, you are asking God to change who he is as a person and he is just as God meant for him to be. Amazing, handsome, smart, funny little boy who brings joy and smiles to everyone he meets. There are so many other things to being praying for so let our kids be who they are meant to be, extra chromosome and all.

Prayer Requests

Also, say prayers for the family who's parents were found murdered in there home. This family has adopted 12 children mostly with special needs 6 with Down syndrome. Our hearts and prayers go out to them. I hope they quickly find loving families to take them in.
