LP/Camp Grace/Caycee Bday

Saturday was a busy day! We started off at the Learning Program hosted by DSACT at 8AM in South Austin which is a little bit of a drive for us. To say the least Rustin was not cooperating well. He was not interested in doing the games or the words or finding his name on the board. Such is life!! We had breakfast IHOP! Yummy! We went to Toys R Us to buy a Bday present for our little friend Caycee who was celebrating her 1st bday. I signed Rustin up for Camp Grace which is a day camp for kids with special needs that does alot of fun things with them while giving the parents a day respite. So we hung around in S. Austin since it was at the same place that hosts the LP which also houses the Rise School. We dropped Rustin off and we thought we would catch a movie but the movies didn't work out with our schedule. We thought we might see Couples Retreat looks really funny but it didn't get out until 4:30 which is the time we were suppose to pick up Rustin so we just walked around the mall. Something me and Troy never do. Sat and had Ice cream in the food court and did some people watching! Can you believe Santa is already at the mall? The only good thing about that is there is no line parents have to wait in while keeping there kids occupied. We ended up picking up Rustin a little early from camp. He had a great time but mom and dad seemed to have been lost without him. We than went to Caycee's party and had a great time with friends.

Joaquin's Story/Benefit

As a parent of a child with special needs, this touches my heart. Although Rustin did not have heart issues which is typical of kids that have DS and Joaquin does not have DS I feel the need to spread the word to help Joaquin's family raise money for his medical bills which we all know add up quickly and even though his family has medical insurance it does not pay for everything. It is also close to my heart because it is a family I know. I went to school with Joaquin's loving Uncle and this family is coming together to raise money to offset the cost of his medical bills and with our awesome community I know they can reach there goal.

Joaquin Emilio Salazar was diagnosed with Tricuspid Atresia before birth. When he was born and transported by ambulance to Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus near the families home, the cariologists found two more defects. Joaquin was diagnosed with a rare and complex heart defect-Tricuspid Atresia, Transposition of the Great Arteries type B with an Interrupted Aortic Arch. It's a mothful but here are the basics.

Tricuspid Atresia means no or small right ventricle...which means that blood can't flow properly if at all.

Interrupted Aortic Arch means the aorta is not completely developed.

Joaquin had open heart surgery at just seven days old. And because of his condition and a certain medicine that his body needed, he was not allowed to eat at all until a few days after his surgery.

Joaquin will require two more open heart surgeries. With the grace of God and His work through the surgeon's hands, Joaquin will lead a fairly normal life. He will not be able to play contact sports and will need to be on baby Aspirin and Lasik for the rest of his life.

About 35,000 infants are born with some kind of a heart defect each year in the US.

The Salazar & Sandoval Family will be having a brisket bbq plate lunch benefit on Dec 5th from 11-2 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Hall in Taylor TX. Plates sell for $8.00 and will come with a generous portion of Beef brisket, Mexican rice, beans, trimmings, and dessert.

If you would like to purchase tickets ahead of time you can call Sebastion Salazar at 512-560-5233 and walk-ins are welcome.

If you can not make the benefit and would like to make a donation to Joaquin's medical fund you can make checks payable to Paul and Christi Salazar memo: Joaquin's medical fund and mail to Sebastian Salazar 318 Mitchell Dr. Hutto TX 78634

Thank you and God Bless

Trick or Treat 09

Rockstars-Troy, Rustin, and Christi. We had a great Halloween. Rustin wasn't interested in walking up to the doors he liked staying in his stroller and daddy pushing him up to the door. Got alot of candy...which Rustin doesn't really eat but it was still fun. Some of the houses were giving coffee away for the parents and the best of all was offering either a cup of wine or beer. Had to make the block and go back...just kidding!

Gilbert loves to put on a show for the kiddos--its always a good time of there!

Buddy Walk 09

Another great event! We had a petting zoo, bounce house, kids games, face painting, clown, music, food, paddle boats, silent auction, bake sale, and dancing. Rustin danced and danced and when it came time for the walk he fell asleep while riding on top of Daddy's shoulders. It was a beautiful day and we raised 100k and still counting! That's alot of money for alot of programs for DSACT to support through the next year;)

Pumpkin Patch/Dsact/Playground

Dsact-Williamson County hosted a get together at the Pumpkin Patch. We got to pick a pumpkin and paint it, take pictures, and play on the playground. Rustin wasn't in to taking pictures or painting his pumpkin but he enjoyed running around and picking his pumpkin and playing on the play ground. He wouldn't eat the pumpkin cookies because they are orange and I think he thinks they are carrots. Overall it was a great day except for the allergys that are kicking Rustin's butt!

Boys and their trucks

I love boys and their trucks! I never really thought about having girls probably because I grew up with 3 sisters and no brothers and I'm not really a girly girl so I knew right from the beginning that Jeremy was a boy and Rustin was a boy way before the ultrasounds and that's all I ever really needed! Plus I have lots of nieces.

He looks like he's trying to imitate Tinker Bell here! lol!

Zakariah Zane

Zakariah (my great-nephew) came to visit. He's getting so big, they grow up so fast. He's such a paci baby! My boys never took the pacifier but Zakariah sure like's his.

It may be raining but I have my sunshine!

Port A

We took a little vacation down to the coast. Short but sweet! Daddy took the older boys deep sea fishing for 8 hrs (didn't catch anything but they had fun) we went to visit the Aquarium ate lunch at Castaways and than spent time on the beach. We had a great time. Can't wait till next year and wondering why we live landlocked??
Our little runner at his finest. I think he could have ran the whole Texas coast. I was never much for jogging on the beach but apparently Rustin loves it!
Daddy and Rustin at Castaways in Port A TX. We actually ate there twice it was so good. Rustin ate his weight in fish, shrimp, and fries it's a good thing Daddy got the "all you can eat"
You always have to have a paddle handy just in case you get stranded

Maybe he's gonna be a surfer..I don't mind I can be a beach bum!

He wasn't to impressed by the Aquarium he kept pointing to the exits. Maybe in a couple years he'll appreciate it more.

He got such a kick out of running into the waves and back to shore.
Testing out the innertube before we put it in the water

Rustin got a kick out of feeding the birds while we waited on Daddy to BBQ chicken.

Rustin has been making great progress feeding his self. His teacher writes he is doing awesome at lunch! Finally, what a relief. It seems like we try and try and we seem to be stuck in the same place and than bam out of nowhere PROGRESS! Yeah Rustin!!

Idaho or Bust!

Jeremy left on a roadtrip to Idaho with his friend that is relocating there. A 4 day roadtrip going thru Ok, Co, Wy, Ut, and than to Idaho. I think they were trying to include as many states as they could on their trip. They finally made it to Moutain Home Idaho and he has been enjoying the moutains and fishing. He said they fish differently than we do here. What ever that means. He flies home on Wednesday having to be at the airport at 6:30am. (he is not a morning person) flying to LAX and having to change planes (this is a little scary he has never flown before much less by his self) and than on to Austin Tx. Pray for his safe arrival.

Rustin's first day of school 09

Daddy drove us to take Rustin to school...so we we're tardy! He drives slower than me. No big deal since it was the first day and everyone was still trying to figure out where to go. We took him to the classroom since we were late but no one was there so we went to the cafeteria and they were in there still waiting for some of the kiddos to finish breakfast. We walked back to the room with Mr. A at first Rustin wouldn't hold his hand but 1/2 way down the hall he started holding his hand. We started the whole "throwing the glasses in the hallway" game when we got ready to leave. Some things never change. ugh.

"Meet the teacher"

We met Rustin's new teacher last night, MR. A! That will be a little different for Rustin. He has the same aide that Rustin has last year, Mrs. H! This year Hutto has added PPCD classes to some other Elementary schools so this year it is just Rustin and one other student in the am class. I like that for alot of one on one and he can get his social interaction in the afternoon at LCA his regular preschool. This is what my husband said about me and the teacher..."I'm sure he will do something to p!$$ you off." "I was gonna tell him he just met his problem for the year." Gosh!! What does my husband think I am some kind of bully fighting for the best education for my kid!

Cowboy Harley Davidson Fundraiser

Stephanie, Xander, Zakariah, Rustin, and I went to the fundraiser held at Cowboy Harley Davidson in South Austin put on by the Gunslingers and Republic of Texas. We had a good time checking out all the bikes, eating some yummy BBQ, and throwing balls and the "Dunk a cop" dunking booth. All the funds raised will go to DSACT. The head guy said they will see over 50,000 people go Thru there today. How awesome is that!!

Only in Texas baby!
There were tons of bikes but this has to be the coolest!!

Prayers for Martinez/Mendez Family

It has been an emotional week. My oldest son, Jeremy his friend lost his mother, uncle, sister, and girlfriend in horrible car accident. They were hit by a drunk driver. It's just sad sad sad. I can't even describe it. We lost our dad to a trajic accident the loss of one family member is almost to much to bear but the loss of 4 is just so hard to imagine. They are holding a BBQ Fundraiser on Sunday at the H&R Block in Taylor. Prayers go out to this family.

Trig Palin

I saw this on www.emmaleefaith.com (she is the awesome woman who created the T21 Traveling Afghan Project) I couldn't believe what I was reading...a website has been established to organize a national day of prayer for Trig..in order to "cure" his Down Syndrome.

Yes, you read that right, they want to "cure" his Down syndrome to prove that God exists. I'm not even quite sure where to begin with this one. Crazy Mad...that's where. This brings me back to a question I was once asked if you could take away Rustin's Down syndrome would you? Although that is a small part of who he is it also makes up that face I Love so much and his personality that makes me laugh every day he has taught us so much and we have become a part of a great organization DSACT and have meet so many awesome people. So with that in mind I would have to say NO. Would I take away the challenges he faces and the health issues and the people who don't have any compassion. I would have to say YES on those things. So its a tough question. By praying away his extra chromosome, you are asking God to change who he is as a person and he is just as God meant for him to be. Amazing, handsome, smart, funny little boy who brings joy and smiles to everyone he meets. There are so many other things to being praying for so let our kids be who they are meant to be, extra chromosome and all.

4th of July Part 1

Happy 4Th of July! God bless our troops past and present. We went to the parade this a.m. and to the playground. We have a party to go to and than we are wrapping it up at the Dell Diamond with Kellie Pickler and Jerry Jeff Walker and fireworks! Should be a lot of fun. Be Safe! We are hoping for an uneventful holiday in years past Clarrissa has had her hair caught on fire, Alyssa had her shirt caught on fire, and Amber has fallen into a fire pit with hot coals. So, you see why we have kinda given up on the personal fireworks and hope for an uneventful holiday! I'll say it again...Be safe!

Rustin's very 1st Dental appt=A+

Rustin went for his very first dental appt this a.m. I went in thinking it was going to be a meet and greet and see when we could set him up for sedation dentistry, typically Rustin gives any Dr. a run for their money. But, surprise surprise. He did awesome. I totally recommend Dr. Gonzales and her staff they were awesome. She was knowledgeable, kind, and she even sang to him while cleaning his teeth. He received an A+ no cavities and she will see him again in 6 mths. So if you are looking for a Dentist I totally recommend www.starsmilesofgeorgetown.com I'm so excited!! Can you hear me singing??(That's probably for the best!)
